The Hyatt Center is the first building in Chicago's downtown loop area to fully comply with the latest Federal energy efficiency code. In addition, a large effort was made to include a green roof system on the new building. Grass cannot withstand the high winds on the upper rooftop, however a grass covering has been incorporated into the design of the lower rooftop, since that is the only area that will accommodate a sodden roof.
