Epstein provided architectural and engineering design services for the development of the $10 million North Security Hall, the first phase of the new security expansion at Midway International Airport. Midway Airport was designed pre-9/11, and as a result, the existing Security Hall at the airport did not have the capacity to meet the needs of the traveling public. This new addition has added eight new lanes for passengers to go through. This has considerably reduced the time it takes for passengers to pass through the Security Checkpoint.

Epstein was asked to design this 20,000 square foot, two-story expansion to address the strict FAA mandates in a manner that was seamless to the existing building. All interior and exterior finishes matched existing conditions, and the flyover approach roadway was modified to accommodate all changes proposed for the entire expansion project. The 2nd floor will be used for offices and is to be built out at a latter date. The end result of this expansion is that Midway is now in accordance with all FAA security requests and the time needed to screen passengers has been dramatically reduced.
