Epstein provided M/E/P engineering services for a 22,000 square foot call center for Interactive Brokers. The call center is located in a historic building in downtown Chicago and handles customer service and online trading orders. The facility has a data center, including a 40 kVA UPS providing backup power to the data center and the customer service desks. The design included a high-performance signal reference grid to protect the sensitive electronic computing equipment from high-frequency interference. Each customer service desk required power for five sets of dual computers with flat panel monitors and additional power for desktop equipment. The mechanical systems were designed to provide extended hours operations when the base building system was powered down. Multiple design process inputs were coordinated, including Historic Preservation Code requirements, building management review processes, lighting consultant design requirements, and value engineering suggestions from the construction management team. The design and construction of the space for Interactive Brokers was completed within a tight time frame of five months. Epstein also provided architectural survey and construction administration services. |
